Founded in 1910, Wellesley Country Club sits majestically in the town of Wellesley Hills, located 11 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts. The club features an 18 hole championship golf course that was a originally designed by Donald Ross. Originally a 9 hole layout, the course expanded to 18 holes in 1961 by architect Geoffrey Cornish. The course in recent years has been modified by Brian Silva(1993) and Craig Schreiner (1999).
Some of golf’s greatest players have enjoyed Wellesley Country Club through the years. In 1913 Francis Ouimet played Wellesley Country Club. He shot two rounds of 88. Two days later he went on to win the US Open. He claimed to have gotten all his bad shots out of his system that day he played at Wellesley.
Wellesley Country Club has played host to several major events, including Mass Open (1985, 1999, 2010), Women’s Mass Open (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997), USGA Women’s State Team Championship (2003), Mass Senior Am Championship (1972, 1985), Mass Junior Championship (1964, 1974), Mass Father/Son Championship (1981), Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament (2009).
The Wellesley Country Club has seen many changes in the last 100 years. It has been host to numerous events and produced many excellent champions. The golfers of the Wellesley Country Club are competitive and dedicated to improving the game and sustaining its values. Wellesley prides itself on the condition of its course and its contributions over the years to the world of golf, both amateur and professional.
